Mounting
-
application of a print to a flat substrate, with the substrate reinforcing the print from the backside; Standard uses for this application include; framing, frame-less presentation, and display/signage for commercial use.
-
the application of a print to board - when the print is either undersized or over sized relative to the board it is mounted onto.
Center Mount
The finished result is a print that is fixed to the center of the board. Either centered or weighted (more space on one or more sides).
Great for prints that need more space introduced at the borders, typically for matting purposes.
Float Mount
The finished result is a print that is hanging over the edge of the board it is mounted to.
Ideal for deckled edge prints, or full bleed prints.
-
Standard options —
(ACM) Aluminum Composite Material (3mm)
Sintra (white or black) 3mm-6mm
Gatorboard (white or black) 3/16”-1/2”
Acid Free Foam Board
4 ply Mat Board
Cradle Board (1/2”-1”)
-
A dry mounting process. Applying even pressure with a large mechanical roller, adhesive is applied to a substrate. Prints or other flat artwork are then able to be fixed onto that prepared substrate.
Acrylic Mounting
-
The application of optically clear adhesive onto the (front facing side) of a print, the applied beneath a clear acrylic board. The end result is print appearing behind an acrylic surface.
This process is great for fine art presentations, plaques, and other custom fabrication purposes.
-
A variation of the Second Surface Mounting process, which involves leaving a border around the edge of the print, rather than carrying the print to the edge of the acrylic surface. The end result is a print appearing behind a clear acrylic board, with an amount of clear acrylic extending beyond the borders of the print.
Float Mounted work pairs with Stand-off Hangers.
-
A variation of the Second Surface Mounting application, this time with a substrate also applied the backside of the print. The end result is a print that is sandwiched between an acrylic surface and a backer board (typically ACM), with the print being visible through the acrylic side.
The backer board allows for French Cleats to be attached.
Lamination
-
Glossy finish that maximizes your prints color, contrast, and saturation. This laminate pairs well with glossy to luster papers, excellent for vibrant work.
For best results, display in indirect lighting.
-
A low glare finish that maximizes your prints legibility. This laminate pairs well with matte papers, and other neutral to luster print types.
Excellent for text based work and soft contrast photo/art.
-
Laminate provides a protective barrier for your prints. Great for high traffic areas in commercial or gallery spaces, or for any work that is meant to be handled regularly.
Glossy or Luster laminates will change the finish of your prints, consideration to how this will affect the final look is important.
Hardware
-
An interlocking set of board strips. Which together will firmly hold artwork onto a wall.
Constructed from Sintra, customized to fit your project. Will create a square frame behind the board is supporting.
Standard for Plexi Sandwich projects, and also supports ACM board applications.
-
4 bolts which attach to each corner of substrate, to hang off a wall. Typically set about 1” into acrylic from the corner. Bolts are capped for a discreet finish.
Typically applied to float mounted acrylic.
-
Hanger made of 6mm thick Sintra, meant to hang from a single nail or screw. Approximately 1/4th the size (width x length) of the board it supports.
Typically applied to 6mm Sintra boards or ACM boards.
-
Small clips, which are meant to hang from a single nail or screw on a wall. Various styles for application to Gatorboard or Cradle Board.
-
Standard applications for larger Cradle Boards not supported as well by Gator Tooth hangers. Attached by fish-eye screw on either side of wood framework.
Applicable to ACM and Plexi Sandwich work, attaches by fish-eye screw onto sintra framework.
